Walkstrange Breaks Down his Creative Name & Why he Creates Music
First and foremost, how long have you been active in the music industry?
I've been making beats since 1998, recording and producing records for my group, The Earvaders, since 2008, and co-owner of a small label, Earvasion Unlimited, since 2012.
Artimus Walkstrange, that is a very creative name, would you mind sharing the origin behind your name?
Being a huge comicbook and science fiction fan, I wanted a moniker that sounded like a misunderstood reclusive mad scientist. The name has two meanings, Artimus stands for Art Is My Unique Signature, and Walkstrange means not following the crowd. I just go by Walkstrange now and use Artimus for my drawing, painting, and graphic design work.
Describe your music in two sentences or less.
Crafting raw beats for storytellers and deep thinkers.
Why does Walkstrange create music, what motivates you?
What keeps me motivated is never being satisfied and always striving to improve with each project. Another fun way I keep motivated is picturing what my music will sound like 5, 10, 20 years from now. My brother Dock June and I, always joke about how we're going to be in our 60's doing shows for our grandkids at a BBQ. To be honest, God willing, I really want that to happen, that's how much I love making music.
What do you want to be remembered for?
I want to be remembered for staying true to myself and my sound, even to the point of stubbornness. Quality over quantity should be every artist's motto. "Never compromise. Not even in the face of Armageddon." - Rorschach / The Watchmen
