So many believers struggle with lust and it is probably one of the toughest temptations to resist, we have all been there… whether it’s struggling with sex, looking at the opposite sex or pornography it all leads to sin. The bible clearly points us towards marriage and indicates that sex is only right if it is within marriage. Not so long ago, the CEO of God Over Porn wrote an article on the addiction of pornography, the pain and anger felt from giving in to lustful desires, time and time again. Today, I was inspired to write this article after listening to Da Truth’s song Fourplay, below I have listed several Christian hip hop songs that talk about lust and sex and of which might help in our fight against the temptations we face.
So how can Christian hip hop songs help people to overcome lust? well, sometimes it’s just hearing another person confessing their struggle with lust/pornography which strengthens us and helps us to get through these temptations, understanding that we are not alone or different from others can do a great deal for reassuring us that we are all in the same struggle. A testimony, which many of the following songs seem to be, is always a great way to feel inspired to fight the good fight!
First, we should always turn to God in prayer if we are facing struggles of any type, if we ask God for help He will be there with us. So let’s take a look at the scriptures which talk on lust.
What does the bible say about lust and sex?"But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart." Matthew 5:28
"Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous." Hebrews 13:4
"But because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband." 1 Corinthians 7:2
"Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry." Collosians 3:5
Now let's take a look at some of the different Christian hip hop songs which may help to motivate us in the fight against lust and pornography. Remember, these are only songs... what will be most important in breaking the chains of lust and pornography will be our relationship with God, crying out to Him and reading His word.
Da Truth – Fourplay
Da Truth sums it all up in the intro “This is something that’s been plaguing the body of Christ for years, and I think it needs to be addressed”. Fourplay is a song which talks about sex outside of marriage and lust, Truth addresses these issues and brings biblical scriptures in to the picture, he also talks on how it can effect our relationship with God as well as our relationship with others here on earth.
In this song, Jahaziel tells his story of how he fell in to the trap of pornography, he also talks about how this then effected his life from there on in terms of how he viewed females. Jahaziel’s final verse actually talks on why he created such a song, in his description he tells of his desire to use his music to help others experiencing the same lustful desires.
Bizzle Ft. Sevin – My Confession
Bizzle and Sevin address the issues of addiction to pornography. My Confession highlights what we already know, that sex and porn is everywhere! Wherever you go, whether you are innocently browsing the internet, listening to music or simply walking in to your local store, you can catch an glimpse which leads to the temptations kicking in. Bizzle and Sevin are fully transparent on this song, confessing their addictions to lust and pornography.
Trip Lee – Looking For Love
Trip Lee takes a look at the difference between true love and lust in Looking For Love, it also looks at how we try to find love in worldy needs such as sex, when really true love and everlasting love is only found in Christ.
Trip Lee – Covenant Eyes
Our second song from Trip Lee, this one however is more directly aimed at lust. In this song Trip Lee talks on having to restrain himself from looking at women and making an agreement with his eyes not to look upon women lustfully. One line which really stood out to me was “So if you see me look away, don’t be suprised, since i’m in love with my God, I’ve got some covenant eyes”.
