The Under-Cover Album Review: 'I Only Review And Post Albums That I Enjoy'

Would you mind sharing the idea behind your blog?

The Under-Cover Album Review was initially just a way for me to share my thoughts on albums I enjoyed. This was never supposed to be anything big or even anything I took seriously. However, a few people took notice of the site, spread the word, and soon artists started asking me to review their work. I realized that this initial idea had tons of potential to expand into something much larger, and that's what we've been trying as 2014 is our first full year in operation.

I love the fact that you still take time to review albums. Do you feel like the album or song review is dying?

Thank you, I really appreciate that. I do feel that the actual reviewing of albums, songs, and videos is dying in today's media. People want things quick, they want to get straight to the point and aren't really interested in taking the time to stop and read. I love to write my thoughts for anyone willing to read them, and I'll continue to do so.

Describe the feeling associated with helping artists achieve free promotion.

It's very rewarding. I only review and post albums that I enjoy and so the press you'll read on the site is either positive or constructive criticism. One of the best feelings as a blogger, is when an artist will humbly thank me for taking the time to review their work. Money is nice, there is no denying that but at the end of the day it's about the music. The money will come eventually, whether through donations or some other form, but supporting a project I truly believe in is much more valuable than any currency. The sites main objective will never be making money. It will always be about supporting quality music by quality artists.

What separates your blog from other blogs? Why should I submit music to you?

The honest and genuine reviews separate us from other blogs. Anyone can post an album cover, write a three sentence bio on it and include a link, but it takes someone who truly loves music to take the time to honestly express my thoughts on an album. People should want to submit their music to me because this blog is different, we don't just say "hey here's an album" we give an in depth look at each piece as a whole breaking down beats and the lyrics, and also commenting on subtle styles that help make each song, album, or video great.

You possess a bundle of creative energy. How do you find the time to be so productive? What are your tips?

By no means is it easy to balance everything out, but if it was easy, everyone would be doing it. As stated previously, this isn't a money making thing, so I'm not putting in the work in hopes of getting paid. It really is all about the music. I try to make as much time as possible for my site because this is my passion.

My advice for anyone in the musical field, or even the blogging field, is to simply be passionate about your work. Go into this industry for the right reasons, and the pay out will come, maybe not in the form of cash, but your efforts will be rewarded if you put in the work.
