Symbolic Saturday: The Symbolism of Light (2 Different Interpretations)

Symbolic Saturday is a series that will focus on symbolism presented in hip-hop.

The two videos below are from different artists yet both of these artists share a common theme. The common or similar theme that these artists share revolves around the concept of light.

I definitely love the concept of this video by Aaron Evans. The Ohio based emcee proclaims that he has been blessed throughout his life. "I've Been Blessed" gives Aaron a platform to express gratitude for the blessings in life. I gravitated to the content because of the lyricism that Aaron Evans shares with the masses.

The video is also very powerful. The symbolism is the video is very strong. The lighting of the candles signifies light conquering darkness. I like how the candle is passed from person to person. To me this act of sharing the candle signifies unity. Romans 13:12 suggests that the night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.

I've been blessed with introspection, blessed with direction
Not perfect, still perfect, in my pursuit of perfection
- Aaron Evans

The second video is from an international emcee by the name of Knightstalker. "End of the Tunnel" is from Knightstalker's latest release End Of The Tunnel EP that can be purchased on iTunes for under 4 bucks.

The symbolism of "End Of The Tunnel" suggests that there is always a positive outcome in the midst of negativity. Light at the end of the tunnel, which is used in the chorus, relates to a solution to a problem or an issue.

Knightstalker is encouraging us to remain strong in the midst of the storm because there is always a light at the end of the tunnel.

Can you think of other hip-hop songs that present the concept of light?
