Read the Label: Markus Designs

First and foremost who is Markus Designs and where do you reside?

MARKUS-DESIGNS is just me, Markus, trying to showcase & share my skills with the world. I'm 27 years old and a graphic designer from Stuttgart, Germany.

How long have you been interested in graphic design?

I've always been a fan of comic books & cartoons and looked up to artists like Bob Kane, Todd McFarlane, Jim Lee, Jick Kricfalusi and others. As I grew older my attention was drawn to cats like Albrecht Dürer and Gustave Doré - artists who inspired me to use pencil & paper to express myself. My elder brother was the one who introduced me into the world of digital art and design more than ten years ago.

You come from a creative family (your brother is a beatmaker). Do you guys push one another creatively?

Yeah - I learn a lot from both of them and try to share some advice for whatever they're working on as well. Brothers are a great source of advice & criticism since they don't have to candy-coat their words & normally they're the first ones to see what I've been up to.

Did you go to school for graphic design?

I visited a College for Media & Design near Stuttgart where I received a lot of input working with programs like Adobe Photoshop as well as Freehand, Flash and Dreamweaver which were Macromedia programs back then.

I noticed that you have done a lot of graphic work for Silas Zephania. How did you get introduced to him?

Silas is family since he's married to my cousin in London. My brother & I met him when the foundation for the album War Begins Where Reason Ends was laid & it was a great experience to be part of that whole project as a graphic designer.

Your five favorite emcees of all-time...

Jiggy Jack aka Penetentiary, Corey Red, CROW from Bruthaz Grimm, Faza Nelly from X-Plastaz and Krazy Native.

What are some of your interests outside of graphic design?

I'm very interested in history & politics with a focus on Africa, the Civil Rights Movement, WWII and the Middle East combined with a general interest in Judaism, Islam and Christianity spawned by my belief in Christ Jesus. I'd love to speak Hebrew or an African tongue.

What inspires you to be creative?

I'm inspired by graffiti and promotional stickers, CD artwork in stores and online, movie posters, concept art for games as well as technical drawings and architecture...but most definitely by everyone sharing his talent with the world!

How can the fans get in contact with you?

My online portfolio can be found HERE and every email sent to info@markus-designs.com will reach me.

Any final words?

Thanks for the interview Praverb!
