Tuesday, February 23, 2010 0

HERE is the album sampler for K. Sparks and G.C. collaborative album called A Day in the Life that features Sean Price, Cymarshall Law, Chris Young, Julius Francis, and more. According to Kevin Nottingham (the homie), the album will take you on a journey that revolves around K. Sparks (a typical day, from sunrise to sunset). The album will be available through Itunes, Amazon and all other major outlets on March 2nd.

Recently I posted the single for this project called Ze Drums. Today marks the official release of Sounds Like and it would be great if you head over to their bandcamp page and download the project. You can listen to this debut album from Ivan Ice and Emay HERE. Dope beats by Ivan Ice and nice rhymes from the multi-talented Emay.

LuShae Earrings...

This blog usually covers things related to music but two weeks ago I received an email that was unusual. Sarah over at Lushae Jewelry sent me an email and she wanted to know if I was interested in reviewing jewelry for the site. Initially I was shocked that someone would contact me regarding such an offer. So I visited the website and I was allowed to scan the inventory and I decided to get something for a lovely person in my life. I selected an item and the item was shipped within 3-5 days and it came in a brilliant box. The item looked better in person than it did on the website(look above). I am thankful for this opportunity and I wish Sarah and all those associated with LuShae Jewelry a blessed and successful year.

Artistic Appreciation (My Ipod)

Tuesday, February 16, 2010 3

I thought about making this a song where I would detail what is on my iPod but I did not like the flow so I decided to upload the lyrics for you all. The concept draws inspiration from Masta Ace, One Be Lo, and Papoose who skillfully destroyed the alphabet. I decided to expand on the concept and flip the alphabet from Z to A and add artists that are currently on my iPod. I may tighten this up and create a song (shrugs).

Ivan Ice and Emay - ze Drums (feat. C4)

Saturday, February 13, 2010 3

This collaborative effort showcases the production talent of Dutch producer Ivan Ice and the smooth flow of Canadian emcee/producer Emay. I like this track because of it's uniqueness and according to the duo this is just an introduction inside the brain of two individuals bent on presenting an unique project to the masses. This track also bolsters the only feature on the project as California based emcee C4 provides an awesome verse. Take a listen to this and get hip to the duo that will deliver Sounds Like later this month.

Introspection (follow along)

Friday, February 12, 2010 0

2009 was a year where I pondered heavily about retiring and giving up something that has always been similar to therapy. This year I have a new focus and I decided to write about it. These lyrics were going to be used for a song but the instrumental did not work so I present the lyrics to you as a gift haha.

At times my christian views get misconstrued
They say I'm arrogant but nowadays I pick and choose
I never claimed to be the image of perfection
Since my adolescence
I always tried to spit the truth//
I'm not blinged out, don't have a cross that hangs
I won't lie, I'm envious of Rick Ross's fame
The way that I was reared, weird, alittle feared
Growing a long beard since Randy Moss can//
But with the same token, I let the pain soak in
Reflect on my mother's death and try to stay focused
Rappers are carbon copies from the same cloth
I'm trying to stand out, they sip the same potion//
The name is Praverb, how did I get my name?
From endless nights reading the book of wisdom, it came
To my mind, the idea was so clear
So I attacked the sheets with no trace of fear// 16
I wasn't heard in the pews, I wasn't heard in the streets
So I decided to record Disturbin' the Priest
God given ability, spitting lyrically
Ac-a-pella style or murdering beats//
Battling was my forte, I grew spiritually
Observe the world around me, grew physically
Reading is fundamental, I've grown mentally
Now I stand on my own two, I hope you feeling me//
In 09, I did a lot of reflecting
a lot of school work, led to a lot of stressing
I did a lot of myspace, twitter, no facebook
But I was wasting time by not progressing//
My progression stalled, the energy was drained
Tried to write rhymes but it didn't seem the same
I lost my passion, how could it be so strange?
When years ago, I was free, the sinner was contained// 32
I blamed God for the gift, I don't want it
Genetically blessed with talent, I won't flaunt it
The Holy Ghost inhabits me, it would be a travesty
If I expressed the sentiment of being haunted//
Three things fueled me
...The inspiration from my family and friends, God, and some movies
Countless beats from Teddy Roxpin
He was waiting for the product
But I...produced nothing//
Broken promises, just a heap of lies
Should I do the world a favor, keep the speech inside?
Guess not, I should go ahead and speak my mind
I haven't reached my apex, pinnacle, or peak//
I haven't heard an instrumental that makes me cease
This rapping, on microphones I try to release
The inner beast, my emotions, gotta run deep
This gift of gab has me staying up late hours// 48
Sacrificing sleep, my eggs in one basket
Speak positive in a place where guns blasted
My heart in these rhymes, my soul within these sheets
I'm glad that I'm alive and that my lungs lasted//
This is introspection, the soul of a man
Look deep into my eyes and behold the master plan
Poetical steez, since a fetus I was genius
Individual failure, I valued what a team is//
A wizard on the mic, I'm trying to pack arenas
With more firepower in my locker than Arenas
With more firepower than SWAT
This is lyrical murder more like the living definition of hot//
The human torch or the definition of heat
Hip hop for life I will profess it in sleep
I'm an educator blessed with lessons to teach
And its potential that I'm destined to reach// 64

M-Dot - I'm ILL (Remix)

Monday, February 8, 2010 1

The Bostonian emcee and frequent collaborator Revalation hit me with this new M-Dot song called I'm ILL that showcases M-Dot's flow and delivery over a Red Cafe inspired track. The track concludes with the homie shouting out blogs and dot com's that have showed him love in the past (this blog is included woooooooo). The homie M-Dot has a lot in store for us before his debut album drops and you best believe I will keep you all updated with the latest and greatest.

Flowing while snowed in...

Sunday, February 7, 2010 2

Well I thought it would be great to upload some lyrics that I composed two weeks ago on my phone. These lyrics will not be recorded and I wrote them because I wanted to state what influences me. I took a year off from solo material in 2009 and I have been influenced by a lot of music and I detailed some of it in the rhyme below (I deleted the other 32 bars because I was rambling on, shoutout to Mykestro, Hell Razah, Slaughterhouse, Nametag, Substantial, Diz Gibran, Pac Div, Lyriciss, Pro'Verb, Jae Life, Ro Spit, and more who put out dope music in 2009). I have been on a mission to murder verses since 2010 commenced and I will bless you all with new material soon.

09' was humble, I listened to some other dudes
Retired from the game I put down my number 2
Listened to LB, Getback
Reflected on classic material that made me want to spit raps//
Digital downloads, it doesn't make sense
I wear Cd's out until the freaking disc scratched
At times the money slows, slows the process
Me and the rhymes mismatch like a set of bummy clothes//
Out in the cold with a running nose and froze toes
Outer body experience, possessing no soul
People sleeping on me, like I don't deliver rhymes
This time, I won't administer no doz//
Shout to Kam Moye, he dropped Splitting Image
His reality raps, fueled my spitting interest
Interested in spitting but I couldn't pen it
Seemed the pen weighed a ton guess I couldn't lift it// 16
El dropped Leftovers
Consisting of dope tracks that were left off The Preface
Blu dropped a mixtape with a nostalgic approach
And it seemed that it captured the essence//
I listened to music, wasn't bound to write
Thinking to myself that many emcees sound alike
Made me want to get up and drown the mic
With saliva, but I didn't have the confidence//
I thought to myself is my flow unique?
Sha Stimuli dropped My Soul to Keep
I've matured, presented an older me
A bold man with known plans he molded me//
This hiatus was the best thing that happened to me
Made me realize how fun rapping can be
Studied long hours, for this class and degrees
So when I pass you know how happy I'll be// 32

A.L. - Lyrics (w/ Lyrics)

Thursday, February 4, 2010 0

This is hands down one of my favorite hip hop songs ever based on the fluid flow of A.L. I first heard this song on the Lyricist Lounge album that was released in 1998 and it stood out. I always wanted to know what happened to this lethal lyricist and I am glad to share that he is apart of the New York based collective House of Repz (they have an album dropping in 2010). I always wanted to decipher the lyrics but I never had the time until today haha.

Yo 96'
Microphone yo
Corazon yo
No Doubt
Yo AL, check it

Raw creation, my nation is trapped packed with animals
Hannibal cannibals lurking the streets which are flammable
harass less, hustlers aiming for the intangible me
I'm too deep, checking if beats are compatible
brain let off shots, body counts become plural
hand me a mic, I'll paint a picture on your mural
visions of streets, soo much blood, we need peroxide
never on the cops side, since my man's pop's died
nothings correct and life is lop side and cock eye
I ain't Popeye so I front hard to make my glock hide
thoughts react to the impossible, kill the profitable
constant-able obstacles, haunt me like my future in a hospital
until them days, my ways will be unstoppable
undroppable, un-dodge ball, many focus, the logical
to know it is to show it, the poet grab the Moet
I blow it before I flow it, topics I sow it, pockets I dough it
legitimate cash is the only thing I creed
so the knowledge I feed until I raise my seed
to much greed exceeds leads the next man to bleed
little kids don't read, they out of touch with weed
so I proceed, to make you hear it just to lead you
with spirits of lyrics, cause I need you

[chorus]
Lyrics, I need you, I breed you, I need you
Lyrics, I need you, I breed you
Lyrics, I need you, I breed you
Lyrics, I need you, I need you

I civilize the unwise when I rise to my potential
the instrumental enables me to move my pencil
coincidental to Einstein's radical mental
kicking ish like Oriental's far from gentle I'm essential
when I speak it, yo I leak it, I freak it until you keep it
gun clappers I creep it, sneak it, rappers love to critique it
AL the honoris, like a foreigner with a jounara?
I counter for visualizing more bodies that a coroner
my streets are evil, minds are feeble, running legal
living savage like eagle, chanting my people to a needle
my mind's cerebral, blesses the mic like a cathedral
thoughts will lead you, verbals will feed you
deceive you, I breed you, heed you
like psychics I came to read you, hip hop I love you and need you
rhythmatic automatic fanatic bringing the static
rappers stay panicked, stay frantic, while I stay relax on hammocks
All is gigantic, volcanic, all the fun like the Titanic
I came to slam it, to hold it down like the granite
lyric mechanic, organic from the Eastern Atlantic
aerodynamic, bending rappers like they ceramic
throughout the planet I scam it then ban it, that's how I ran it
a genuflection goes out to those in corrections
for recollection, I use the Common Sense Resurrection
so use protection when you step in my direction
lyric injection can cause infection in your section
there's no reflection in this professional selection
give mic inspections so I can hold it with affection
beat perfection, corrals the mental in erection
so vote perfection, House of Repz, run elections

[chorus]
Lyrics, I need you, I breed you, I need you
Lyrics, I need you, I breed you
Lyrics, I need you, I breed you
Lyrics, I need you, I need you

Elzhi - Red, Black and Green (w/ Lyrics)

Tuesday, February 2, 2010 2

Another amazing song from Elzhi's latest mixtape entitled The Leftovers Unmixed Tape. This is a short song that features production from Black Milk. Lately I have been inspired by verses from the phenomenal Elzhi as well as verses from Royce Da 5'9", One Be Lo, Nametag, Marv Won, Illite, Danny Brown, Ro Spit, etc. Basically I am big fan of Detroit's hip hop scene and they continue to deliver sources of lyricism.

Yo, the red is for the blood shed
the black is for the color who bled
over the green by any means that's the bread
my race kill for the blood money on a paper chase
they shape to trace a fellow then they yellow tape the place
of the crime scene, and shorty flipping the dime in a lime green
live a broad time if he's not keeping his palms clean
could be the stick up kid, to leave em brainless
with the stainless, steel, kill and make em famous
I've seen it all price claims
shoot outs and dice games
snitches getting thrown in ditches giving precise names
throwing monkey wrenches, glitches on they riches which is
reason why they hustle with the devil and scuffle with stitches
them hoodrat b****es be out for the quick grand
a chick can and will set you up like a kick stand
leave you stuck, I call it the stick man
it's more slang, to cause gang wars and make the four four bang
the red the black the green, with the key
of coke go together like light it and smoke
