Rest in Peace Brandon "Point Game" Burris

Wednesday, January 27, 2010 2

Brandon Burris aka Point Game departed from this earth last week and I just wanted to express condolences to his family and those who were close to him. Brandon was a person that I connected with based on the sincerity presented in his music. Most song writers give you a glimpse of their personal torment to a point where you feel like you have known this person your whole life based on the emotional response that a song or an album evokes. I was inspired by his work and he expressed that he was inspired by my work. Brandon and I both lost our biological mothers, so a connection was formed based on trauma and death. Brandon was also a person who had a big heart and knowledge about religion; he was not ashamed of presenting his flaws (so-called flaws) to the world. I just wish that I had the opportunity to interact with this man more. I am not saying that my influence could had prevented the death of this immensely talented brother but I do believe that we could have assisted one another in dealing with depression. So please download and support (he has an album on iTunes called HipHopCrisy, as well as a feature on Spoonfull's new project) this brother who departed this earth too soon.

Listen to these releases and get to know Brandon Burris:

Rusty...

Monday, January 25, 2010 2

feeling like Royce, after the prison stint
I found my voice, now I'm replenishing
with rap ammo, my tactics are passive
I practice tactics that could trap Rambo

January has been a great month so far and I am finally recording again. I have noticed that the year off from recording (solo material) has led to difficulty delivering verses. I remember when I would record a verse in one take but nowadays I struggle. I believe that it could be attributed to being anxious and wanting to put material out to let the populous know that I am back. I love blogging and listening to music during the past year but I also enjoyed reading. I wanted to expand the knowledge capacity and read about topics that I would usually bypass. With that being said I just wanted to express that I am glad to be writing again and expressing some emotions.

Nucci Reyo - Homies In Hell (prod. by Sid Roams)

Sunday, January 24, 2010 3

The homie Clubba Lang over at Dot Got It sent me this new track from Nucci Reyo. I like this track and I love the direction of Nucci's new material. I visited his myspace page and watched the video for Wages of Sin and I was impressed. The homie is a walking testimony who has withstood the storm. Pray for Nucci on his road to redemption.

Sean J. - That Joy (prod. by Osna)

Friday, January 22, 2010 0

This is another leak off A Tree By Itself that features an awesome beat by Osna. I love the positivity that this track exudes. I have been a fan of Sean J.'s music since his Infinite Kingdom days. I also did a few collabs with him back in the day (Shootouts, Star in the Making, and some other tracks). I would love for you to take the time and listen to this TRACK.

Cool Edit Appreciation Day

Monday, January 18, 2010 1

Today is a monumental day because I will shed light on one of the best recording programs ever. I was first exposed to Cool Edit back in 2002 after I came back from my first stint in college. Cool Edit became the go to program for me because it is user friendly, easy to work with, and it works. I have tried to use Cubase, Cakewalk, and even Pro Tools and those programs are great to use but Cool Edit is the easiest to work with. I also find it simple to collab with people who use Cool Edit because all you have to do is compress the file and send it in an email. I would love to read your experiences with Cool Edit and other audio programs. What separates this programs from the rest?

Question for my Cool Edit users:
Is Peter Quistgard real haha?

Dying 2 Live...

Sunday, January 17, 2010 1

I was exposed to this trailer, that details the life of Andre "Big Cat" Catlett, from the homie Rerok's website earlier today. This is an inspirational trailer that highlights Andre struggle with cancer. Some people say that music is therapy and I believe that music provided solace and comfort for the Fredericksburg, Va native as he continues to deal with the uncertainty related to cancer.

Flow Fridays, this week, will focus solely on releases by Kanye Live members. Kanye Live is an interactive community where people can post material and receive feedback (amongst other things). So sit back and enjoy the dopeness.

The Admiral and Teddy Roxpin formed the dynamic duo known as Cold Legistics and they are talented beat makers. This CL offering highlights the skill of The Admiral (although I believe that Cold Legistics applies to one person now either way SEND ME BEATS). Recently he released a dope beat tape that you can download HERE.

M-Trey is definitely slept on and his project Life Support drops tomorrow. The homie M-Trey serves up an appetizer for listeners with Also Appalled. M-Trey is an emcee that I respect based on his creativity, technical ability, and versatility. I hope that I will get a chance to record a full-length project with him in the future.

5th Element is another talented beat maker that I wish would send me beats haha. He recently released a project called Elements of Life and it is an instrumental album. You can download this project HERE.

CJ The Genesis is a very talented artist who dabbles with emceeing and beat making. His latest project Hiatus is a worthy listen, so please download it HERE.

This release features the maturation process of Frak. When I first heard Frak I noticed that lyrically he was advanced but his style was all over the place. Fast forwarding to the present, the audience witnesses the transformation of an artist who definitely put time into his craft. Shadows is Frak's latest project and you can download the project HERE.

Kid Duke is beat maker that I came across when I was putting this blog together. Recently he released a dope beat tape that you can download HERE. Kid Duke is also one fourth of Digital Vinyl (a dope group) who recently relased a mixtape called Dilemma that you can download HERE.

The homie Revalation dropped The Revalation Will Be Televised: Commercial Interruption on December 31st and it highlights the Massachusetts emcee attacking commercial beats without sacrificing his integrity as an artist. You can download the mixtape HERE.

Another stellar project from West Coast flame spitter Kendrick Lamar. I am glad that I listened to Mykestro's recent project that highlighted this authentic lyricist. You can download this project HERE.

The homie Cyrano also dropped a dope mixtape on the last day of the year and I felt compelled to post it. This mixtape caps a productive year for the North Carolina emcee who I still have to collab with. Let's make it happen in 2010 hehe, you can download the album HERE.
