First and foremost give the audience a brief introduction to who Dj Wich is
Hi, I am a Dj, but mostly producer. I started djing at 98, making beats at 99. Last year I also started to shoot and edit videos and fuck with some graphics little bit. I released 7 albums, few mixtapes and hundreds of singles. I won a Czech Grammy and 8 another prizes for my music during the years. I love music and i´m a workaholic.
Recently I had the opportunity to listen to the collaboration with Rasco and I was impressed with the production. How has the internet helped you connect with Western artists?
Thank you, internet helped me a lot. I started to contact few rappers like 3 years ago via Myspace. I got in touch with a lot of artists, then had the opportunity to meet them personally also. So without internet I wouldn't be able to do these collabos.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of social networking sites(Myspace, Twitter, YouTube, etc)?
Big advantages are those contacts, you can get closer to the artists that you like, you can see what they are doing, what kind of new music they are putting out. You don´t have to send beat cds to them, the internet is big.
Disadvantages I would say those spams and a lot of annoying people writing stupid status messages.
You have been blessed with the opportunity to work with a lot of respected artists. Describe how you feel when you complete a song with someone such as Rasco, Planet Asia, Nironic, Little Brother, and others
When I was working on The Golden Touch, Rasco was the first that I worked with, then I got in touch with a lot of other different rappers like Talib Kweli, Royce da 5'9", Raekwon, M.O.P., Slum Village, Lil Wayne etc. It was really big for me, it made my dreams come true. When I got the acapella from Little Brother I was so happy, that I was crying actually. I get used to it now, but still feels really good.
How long did The Untouchables project take to complete?
We put out the first single at April, but the rest of the album was made in last 2-3 months.
Describe the hip hop scene in the Czech Republic
The scene is pretty small out here. The most respected artists are from the capitol city of Prague which I am from. Then we have a few rappers outside, but the emcees aren't really working together. Some of them are overrated, some underrated, but I guess it is the same in other countries. Each crew stay on their own hustle mostly. We have some good upcoming producers.
Do you still stay in contact with MC Indy?
We released 2 albums together in the past, we was making shows for like 12 years, but now we both concentrate on our own projects more.
What motivates you to continue to push out music?
I´m trying to put out much music as i can, I just love it. I like the feedback from the fans. I´m trying to stay busy all the time in the studio, home, on the internet etc. I´m checking a lot of American hip hop sites each day, that motivates and inspire me too.
A perfect beat is comprised of...(describe what a perfect beat sounds like to you)
Couldn't really tell. It depends. For me the most important thing is to find a nice sample, going through lots of old records. Sometimes you can just leave the whole loop, sometimes I play with it more and chop it up crazy. Add some nice drums to it, bass, fx sounds, synths whatever. Perfect beat can be 2 bar sample loop just like 50 audio tracks project.
What projects are you currently working on and what is in store for the future?
I finished lots of singles mostly for the rappers here. We are making a remix for Grizzly with Rasco with some american emcees like Reks, Guilty Simpson, El Da Sensei, we are trying to get Fashawn and Elzhi on it as well.
In few months I will drop an album with Nironic, and at the end of the year I want to release my third solo album.
The Golden Touch was an album that people...
...should listen to. You can hear my style on it, lots of moods, lots of rappers on one album. Go check that out.
What are the best ways for people to contact you?
People can hit me on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Facebook fanpage.
